C hurch Behind the Walls began its ministry in 1999 in the Georgia State Prison System. Currently we minister in three of the men’s prisons weekly, conducting worship services, Bible studies, training classes, prayer meetings and counseling. We believe that God can change anyone’s life, even those whose hearts have been hardened by their own mistakes and the hardships of this life. Many of these men have no one on the outside to love and care for them. Our deepest desire is to bring the love of Christ to these forgotten men and to equip them to be ministers to others who walk those roads with them, and to prepare them for life on the outside, where they can continue to share the Gospel of Christ.
Where there is one inmate behind bars, there are countless others who are affected by his decisions, actions and circumstances—parents, siblings, spouses, children, aunts and uncles—whole families that have become fractured and live with broken hearts and incredible pain, day after day. Our goals are to return these individuals back to their families, as totally new and changed people—never to return to life behind bars again.
Church Behind the Walls also provides packaged treats to the Prison Chaplains on a weekly basis that they can use to reward inmates for helping others. Churches that have sponsored us have also helped us to provide hygiene products that are given to all of the inmates at Christmas and also throughout the year if one has a specific need for these items. These products are not provided by the prison, but are daily necessities for anyone—items such as toothpaste, a toothbrush, comb, deodorant and other basic-need items that we often take for granted.
Currently, our ministry goes into three facilities in Georgia—Central State Prison in Macon, GA, Macon Transitional Center and Washington State Prison in Davisboro, GA. This past year, we conducted 64 services in these three facilities and 1,026 men gave their hearts and lives to Jesus Christ during those services.
We would like to invite you to be a part of this ministry. You can get involved financially by clicking on our “How You Can Help” page. You can also get involved directly, and be there in person, having the indescribable experience of witnessing the miracles that God performs and seeing the moment when one of these lost souls recognizes that he can actually have HOPE—HOPE in Jesus Christ—HOPE for a new life.
You can get in touch with us through email at ChaplainMarthaler@ChurchBehindTheWalls.com, or by phone at 770.380.0436, and we will provide you with more details about how you can get personally involved.
